The EXCEED Study

Extended Mesenteric resection in ileocecal Crohn's Disease to prevent recurrent disease – A randomized controlled trial. A trial under SSORG.

About the Project

The EXCEED study is a multinational, blinded randomized controlled trial (RCT). The study compares two types of ileocecal resection in Crohn’s Disease. A standard ileocecal resection is compared to an extended mesenteric resection.

The study is designed as a two-arm superiority study including 204 participant.

The objective is to examine whether extended excision of the mesentery in Crohn’s disease can effectively reduce recurrence.

The primary endpoint is endoscopic recurrence at 12 months postoperatively.

The study will commence October 1st2024 and inclusion is expected to last 3 years.

SSORG

Scandinavian surgical outcomes research group

Scandinavian Surgical Outcomes Research Group (SSORG) started in 2008 as a network of colorectal surgeons with academic interest from six Swedish and four Danish hospitals.

The aim of the group is to scientifically evaluate surgical treatments and perform clinical research with an emphasis on large multicenter trials. We evaluate the safety and efficacy of treatments and with all the participating hospitals as a base for recruitment of patients we aim at a fast inclusion rate. Most of our trials include health related QoL as well as health economic end-points.
